The Joys of MotherhooD
Pairings: Slight Tatsumi/Watari, Hisoka/Tsuzuki
Warnings: Much gender-switching.
Summary: Watari succeeds in creating his gender switching potion. Everyone else wants to kill him.
Comments: I was grinning madly thoughout the entire fic. It’s just…funny and so in character and the sheer random cuteness of Wakaba and Terazuma actually being able to touch because they switched genders was just fun. The author has a real knack for writing wonderful, wonderful Watari fic.
One-shot, complete.
Musical Chairs
Pairings: Tsuzuki/Hisoka, Muraki/Oriya, Tatsumi/Watari, slight implied Tatsumi/Tsuzuki
Warnings: Slash
Summary: Watari is determined to make Tatsumi drunk. And succeeds.
Comments: This is a fic that, in the hands of another writer, could have been very poorly done. But I enjoyed the utterly batshit insanity while still managing to keep the characters pretty close to their original selves. And Watari, as always, amuses the crap out of me.
One-shot, complete.
Arcana
Pairings: About as much Ban/Ginji as there is in the original series. And a bit of Shido/Madoka.
Warnings: None
Summary: A series of Tarot themed drabbles about the Getbackers characters.
Comments: I know nothing about the tarot, except maybe the names of a couple of the cards. I tend to find fics and art based off the tarot tiresome and boring. That aside, this was very nicely done. It works very well for all the characters. One thing I would like to note is that it appparently isn’t complete though. Still, what’s there is definitely worth the read.
Series of drabbles, incomplete.
Undemanding
Pairings: Tsuzuki/Watari
Warnings: Implied sex, yaoi.
Summary: Plotless fluff. Tsuzuki and Watari are working on a case together.
Comments: This is not a pairing I tend to like. I prefer Tatumi/Watari, or even Watari by himself as a general rule of thumb. But this is well written, and manages to capture the inherent playfulness of Tsuzuki and Watari’s relationship wonderfully.
Notes: I beat my previous high score on Civ II! *dances with glee* …Yes, now that I did that, I’ll go back to reccing fics. Promise. Hopefully.
One-shot, complete.
Untitled
Pairings: Standard X ones.
Warnings: The crackiest crack that has ever cracked. And yaoi, of course.
Summary: An X/PoT fusion. What happens when the PoT characters replace the X characters?
Comments: You know, I expected this to be stupid. And to be fair, it sort of is. But it’s funny. And the interactions between Subaru!Tezuka and Seishirou!Atobe cracked me up. And the scene where they had to try to convince Ryoma that he was Kamui, dammit, had me so very amused.
Side notes: Blame my brother for the lack of updates. He just got me readdicted to Civ II, dammit. And it looks like I’m about to get into a war with the Germans, who have twice the military I do. Dammit. Have I mentioned that I really really suck at Civ II?
Series of connected ficlets, may or may not be complete.
Wait For Me
Pairings: Sakura/Syaoran
Warnings: None
Summary: A speculation on what might happen at the end of the series.
Comments: I go back and forth on how much I like Sakura/Syaoran, but this just is sad. And sweet. And I like it because it’s just… I have such a difficult time figuring out how Sakura and Syaoran are going to end up because I desperately want a happy ending for them, I just don’t see how. And this just…Syaoran’s so willing to sacrifice himself for Sakura, and it deals with what Sakura wanted to tell him in the first place…
Hell, I have no clue what I’m saying. Go read it anyway.
One-shot, complete.
Symbolism
Pairings: Depends on how dirty your mind is how many you pick up. Characters involved are Utena, Anthy, Akio, and Touga
Warnings: Sexual um, symbolism.
Summary: Utena and Anthy discuss symbolism.
Comments: Harukami is still one of my favorite authors, and this cracks me up. It’s just…uniquely Utena in an absolutely hilarious way.
One-shot, complete.
Rainbow Noir
Pairings: NOne
Warnings: It’s eighties kids’ shows noir. It may destroy your fond childhood memories.
Summary: Rainbow Land is dead, and color is almost gone from the world.
Comments: This left me speechless for several minutes after reading it originally. Then I actually printed it out and forced my father and brother to read it. Then I brought it to class and made some of my friends read it. It’s just…it manages to make one of the most wonderfully wrong ideas I’ve ever seen work and work well.
One-shot, complete.
The Official Fanfiction University of Middleearth
Pairings: Gimli/OFC
Warnings: Mary Sue parody. Well done, but still a Mary Sue parody fic.
Summary: Badfic authors are forcibly educated, and Gimli gets the girl.
Comments: I’m rarely fond of Mary Sue parodies. They tend to try to hard. But this is well done, and actually sweet. My biggest problem with it is that the narrator - a badfic author - gets too many privileges, but considering how bored I got in the sequel where the badfic authors are less redeemable, I think the author’s caught between a rock and a hard place on that. And I seem to be going on a Mary Sue parody kick at the moment, despite the fact that they’re rarely any good. Alas.
Multi-chapter, complete.
With Enemies Like These
Pairings: None
Warnings: None
Summary: Ginji points something out to Akabane.
Comments: This is just very…not quite cute, not quite hilarious, but good. It’s well-written, interesting, and it fits very well into the Getbackers series.
One-shot, complete.
Phases
Pairings: Touya/Yukito (Clow country version)
Warnings: None
Summary: A vignette on Touya and Yukito’s relationship.
Comments: I’m feeling rather triumphant right now, because I knew I had seen a Clow country Touya/Yukito fanfic, but I forgot to bookmark it. And this is a wonderful development of how their relationship might work in that universe. I like Touya and Yukito, anyway.
One-shot, complete.
Making Arrangements
Pairings: Not telling
Warnigs: Yaoi.
Summary: It’s always the polite ones. Shien, Yaone, and Hakkai are making arrangements.
Comments: This is funny. I don’t quite know how to describe it, except that it’s an amusing concept, and I like the way the author used Kami-sama. And I’m really tired and probably not going to do many recs today.
One-shot, complete.
The Awful Truth
Pairings: Tsuzuki/everyone
Warnings: Yaoi. Character reinterpretation for humor purposes.
Summary: Hisoka comes to Muraki and offers him a deal.
Comments; This amuses me far too much. I was mildly amused up til the end, but the line “Bribe Tatsumi and he’ll even lose the mission records and swear that Tsuzuki was last seen heading for the Bahamas in search of the Big Rock Candy Mountain.” cracked me up. And good humor is far too rare.
Duty of Service
Pairings: Implied Kougaiji/Yaone and Kougaiji/Doku
Warnings: Yaoi. Yuri. Yes, yuri.
Summary: When Kougaiji’s transformed into a woman, Yaone does her duty.
Comments: I have to admit, I truly enjoy this author’s humor fics. She has a knack for understating things so that you really clearly understand what she’s trying to say, without quite saying it. And I am so very amused by this.
One-shot, complete.
Natsumi’s Diary
Pairings: Lots of implied.
Warnings: None
Summary: A week in the life of a budding entrepreneur. Natsumi begins to understand why Paul gets so irritated on occasion.
Comments: I have to admit, some of this made me start giggling madly. It wasn’t so much the content, I think , as it was the narrator. Because you get your information filtered through Natsumi, and while I may have a dirty mind, she doesn’t. And that’s why it’s funny.
One-shot, complete.
Going Downhill Fast
Pairings: …Not telling. Lots of implied, mostly for the humor purposes. Both het, yaoi, and yuri.
Summary: Ban’s day just keeps getting worse.
Comments: I didn’t realize what was going on at first, and I think that improved the hilarity value, so I’m not sure what to say. Except that it’s tremendously funny, and poor, poor Ban.
One-shot, complete.
En Passant
Pairings: None
Warnings: None
Summary: Not all first meetings are dramatic.
Comments: The understatement of this makes it. Somehow, the quiet undertone of danger underneath a surface appearance of normality works perfectly for Himiko and Akabane’s first meeting. It fits their relationship quite well, I think.
One-shot, complete.
A Few Minor Details
Pairings: Mentions of Kenren/random chick
Warnings: Heavily implied adultery
Summary: Kenren always has an explanation.
Comments: I could not stop laughing the first time I read this. Or the second. Or the third. Look, I tend to reread good fics a lot. And this is hilarious. I adore Kenren, and the general’s reaction to his explanation is utterly hilarious.
One-shot, complete.
Snow Days
Pairings: Light Kurogane/Fye
Warnings: None
Summary: On a snowy day in yet another world, Kurogane and Fye discuss Ceres.
Comments: This is going into my small list of favorite favorite Tsubasa fics. I love the way she characterizes Fye - the cheerfulness with an edge. I thought she dealt with his relationship with Ashura nicely as well - most people, if they deal with Ashura, seem to go for the “Oh, angst. Woe is me. Angst angst angst angst” type of situation. And if I wanted that, I’d go read a fic about Kamui. This is more subtle, but you get a more interesting view of their relationship through what Fye doesn’t say as much as what he does say. And I like Fye and Kurogane playing in the snow. Fye is evil.
One-shot, complete.
Steps of the Dance
Pairings: Lafarga/Caldina
Warnings: None
Summary: The tale of Caldina’s childhood
Comments: Oddly, my second favorite pairing in Magic Knight Rayearth is Lafarga/Caldina. Yeah. I really go for the obscure stuff, don’t I? But this is a nicely written, if tragically incomplete story. I like Caldina, and this is a nice little fic about her.
Multi-chapter, incomplete.
