The Wake
Pairings: Seems to be going in a Ginji/Natsumi direction now. Alas. What’s wrong with good old Ban/Ginji, dammit?
Warnings: An OC. Really.
Summary: A street urchin discovers just how hard it is to make an enemy out of Ginji.
COmments: Okay, at the start, this fic has a number of things that should make me roll my eyes and wander off. It’s mostly written from the viewpoint of a male OC street kid who Ginji adopts. Can we say Gary Stu? It looks to be pairings up Ginji/Natsumi, which is a pairing I tend to look blankly at and go “Why, dammit? Why?” (Though I feel the need to note that there is at least one other Ginji/Natsumi which I’m planning on reccing. When I get around to it. But overall, that’s a massive, massive turnoff for me). In the second chapter, Ginji mentions being a weaker fighter than Ban, which irritates me because I’ve always seen them as being equal.
But why do I like it? Because Ginji and Ban are just so perfectly in character (except for that one peccadillo I already covered). Ginji’s sweet, concerned to the point of absurdity over other people, friendly, protective, and just…it reminds me of why he’s my favorite GetBacker when Ban fits the profile of my favorite characters so much better. Ban is his usual snarky, aggressive self who only puts up with the damn street rat because Ginji likes him, dammit. And if that isn’t Ban, then what is? I’ll admit I’m very skeptical of whether or not the OC’s going to butcher Ban’s hcaracter by making him friendly to the OC later on, but well, for now, it’s a good read.
Mullti-chapter, incomplete.
