Comments: I like this because it’s the one and only fic I’ve found that has Hikaru and Lantis together, and deals with Eagle’s feelings in a realistic way. (No, I’m not interested in anime-based fics realistically dealing with Eagle’s feelings, thanks). I still don’t quite understand Eagle’s reasoning, but then, I’m enough of a die-hard HLE fangirl that you would have to hit me over the head with a stick saying “If Eagle and Lantis and Hikaru are together, the world will end and there will be a rebellion in Autozam and Cephiro, and they will be executed. Really.” So, yeah. It’s a nicely done fic.

Comments: I am a massive Eagle fangirl. I went without lunch for two weeks so I could buy Rayearth II, just for him. A well-written, plausible tale of Eagle’s life is like a dream come true. I’ll admit there’s a few things that could make me happier - the author acknowledges the possibility of Hikaru/Lantis/Eagle, but chooses to just go with Hikaru/Lantis, which irritates me. Especially since ever since reading the last Magic Knight Rayearth manga, I have been unable not to think of them as a threesome. But it’s well written, and I like the way she depicts Eagle as a young kid, because I can actually sort of see that.

Comments: I have been wanting a Cherry/Jennifer fic for forever. And it’s by one of my favorite authors. And it’s well written, and Wolfram’s reaction cracked me up. Damn, Cecille moves fast.

Comments: This is just a wonderful way of showing how I really do think Clow and Yuuko’s relationship might have worked when Clow decided to um, do what he did in CCS. I like Yuuko in this. She’s upset, and angry, and still her. It seems like the trend in XXXHolic fics is going to be to soften her up in relationship fics with Clow, and I don’t like that. This still keeps her personality the same as in the manga. Which makes me go ♥_♥. Not that I’m in lust with Yuuko or anything. Really. Oh hell. Not another character I’m fangirling madly over.

Comments: Fuji is wonderfully in character, and the interactions cracked me up. I’m a tad iffy on Tezuka’s characterization (I don’t see him as the jealous type), but Tezuka’s not one of my favorite characters, so I don’t really care. It’s mostly just a fun little read.

The reason Watari suddenly has money is hilarious, and the way Tatsumi starts coming to Watari’s office because he’s wondering why Watari’s no longer hitting him up for money is hilarious (and so very true) and Watari so blows up the lab on purpose on occasion. Just to see people’s reactions. Did I rec the fic solely about that? Do I remember what fic that is? My memory sucks.

Comments: I have been fighting off the most unclear plotbunnies on this particular plot in Tsubasa, and I finally - finally - get a good fic on it that’s beginning to get the bunnies to solidify a bit. Cairnsy is one of my two or three favorite authors in the Tsubasa fandom, and this deals with what happened in Shurano nicely. It still doesn’t resolve many of the issues that have been driving me nuts, but it’s a very nice mood piece. And I need more fics exploring Fai and Kurogane dealing with the situation revealed in ch. 68. Good ones, preferably.

Comments: This is everything I love in an AU. A single change, and a thorough exploration of the cascading results of the change. The author’s Obi-Wan is as strong as he bloody well should be. (My pet peeve is weakening a strong character for the sake of making him the female member of a slash pairing. It makes no sense.) Obi-Wan is just…wonderful and wise and Qui-Gon’s just written wonderfully and the way she deals with Anakin is just interesting. And I want more, dammit.

Rat’s fiction

Warnings: If you’ve ever played Shadowrun, you’ll know it’s a dark, gritty kind of universe.
Comments: Well, I seem to be breaking my momentary disinterest in fanfics with something really unusual for me. Basically, Rat’s written about six novels, and several shorter works about her character, Winterhawk (a mage shadowrunner), and his team. These are surprisingly well written, and I am desperately in lust with Winterhawk. If you have lots of spare time, go read them all. If you don’t have much spare time, or don’t want to start on a novel-length story, my suggestion would be to start on Wrong Place, Wrong Time. It’s a good novella length fic. I don’t like Rat’s shorter stories that much, as a general rule, though. I tend to be a harder sell on shorter fic if I’m in the mood for long, and I only go to Rat’s site if I’m in the mood for long.

Summary: The Getbackers have a case that goes even more wrong than usual.
Comments: Kinkiest Getbackers het fic I’ve ever seen. Author even has a pretty decent knowledge of BDSM. But that isn’t all of it, of course. It’s well written, and she actually manages to deal with Natsumi as a three-dimensional character. And I have an entirely irrational fondness for Natsumi. She’s so cheerfully evil. And the part where she’s dressing the Getbackers in the costumes for the night cracked me up. My life is made complete by the author describing Ban in costume as Akabane in drag. And it’s long, and plotful, and suspenseful, and does feel like a Getbackers episode in a lot of ways.

The bit where Hermione starts talking about researching the effects at the end is just so very her that I couldn’t help but love it.

Except I liked the characterization and just how well they understood each other. How well they understand each other does tend to be what draws me to trio fic.

Comments: To be honest, I tend to think of this as more of a Discworld fanfic than a Harry Potter one, because, ignoring the actual universe it’s set in, it is very much in the Discworld feel. Which is why I like it, but I think she really overdid it. But characterizing Ginny as pretty much a young Granny Weatherwax amuses me. And I have a weakness for anything that looks like it’s going to be dealing with politics and Machiavellian characters. By which standards, this is very good.

Comments: This is good. This is very good. I like trio fic, but so much of it is pure porn, and that bores the crap out of me. A fic like this, that’s looking at their relationship developing, vaguely surreal and disjointed, but working nonetheless…I’m thrilled. I tend to somewhat enjoy fics that are dealing with the approach to the war with Voldemort, and for this to be a well-written trio fic as well is far too rare. The only thing that would make me happier would be for me to find a trio fic with a long and complex plot.
