Lunchtime
CHaracters/Pairings: Rin, Yondaime, Kakashi, Obito.
Warnings: None
Summary: Rin notices that her teammates seem incapable of making themselves proper lunches.
Comments: I like the dynamics of the team in this. I like the way that Yondaime’s characterized as kind of Naruto-ish, in a much more mature way. I like the way Rin decides to make sure her teammates at least eat lunch properly. (Especially since her rationale comes more from being from a medic-nin family than being the only girl. Because sometimes the ways the girls in the series are treated *coughflower-arranging classescough* make my eyes roll). I like the young!Kakashi characterization - kind of has a stick up his ass, but is still a kid. In some ways, at least. Obito’s characterization is kind of bland, but the rest of them make up for it.
Fit to Be Tied
Characters/Pairings: Hinamori, vaguely Aizen/Hinamori and/or Hitsugaya/Hinamori
Warnings: None
Summary: Hinamori changed to wearing her hair in a bun when she became vice-captain.
Comments; I liked the relationship dynamics in this. I liked the “Aizen’s the reason why she changed, and Hitsugaya’s just kind of there for her” dynamics. I also have much love for the vice captain meetings as written here. And even the characters who are barely even mentioned are just nicely characterized. *coughRenji and Byakuya’s relationship. No, not like that, you pervertscough* It’s just well-done.
One-shot, complete.
Girls Have Needs Too
Characters/Pairings: Naruto/Sakura/Sasuke
Warnings: Extensive talk of non-graphic sex, and a fade to black makeout scene
Summary: Team 7 discuss sex. And come to a conclusion.
Comments: I was laughing the entire way through, while cheering them all on. Askerian’s still easily my favorite NaruSasuSaku author, and this is very well-done. And the scene with Kakashi walking in on them at the end is hilarious.
One-shot, complete.
Family Traditions
Characters/Pairings: Subaru/Seishirou, Subaru/Seishirou/Setsuka threesome, Hokuto
Warnings: Implied incest?
Summary: After death, they reunite.
Comments: I should not be as amused by this fic as I am. But the utterly outrageous way Setsuka is hitting on Subaru and the way Setsuka and Seishirou are double-teaming Subaru never fails to amuse me.
Notes: I’m not going to be home tomorrow from six in the morning to midnight. And I don’t have a laptop. (My brother does, but I doubt I can get him to lend it to me for the day). So I won’t be reccing tomorrow unless I figure out how to post-date posts. Which I might do. Depending on if I finish the other stuff I need to do tonight. But don’t be too surprised if I don’t rec tomorrow.
One-shot, complete.
Untitled roleplay - Excel Saga
Characters/Pairings: Excel/Lord Ilpalazzo
Warnings: Sex. Somewhat graphic, and somewhat kinky. Much left to your imagination, though.
Summary: Excel and Ilpalazzo have sex. In the most in-character way possible.
Comments: I could not stop laughing at this. I usually refrain from reccing even the most brilliantly played threads at CFUD here, but I’m giving myself a bit of extra leeway because this is AU and can stand entirely on its own. (And was done by one player, who plays both Excel and Ilpalazzo in CFUD, which helps me think of it more as something close to a fic than a roleplay). But if you don’t like livejournal roleplays, obviously this is not for you.
But this is brilliant. Excel never fails to amuse me, and the Ilpalazzo/Excel interaction here cracks me up. I think perhaps my favorite moment is when Ilpalazzo pulls out his gameboy and starts playing it in the middle of screwing Excel. I am so totally amused by all of it, though.
Standalone roleplay, complete.
Four Funerals and a Wedding
Characters/Pairings: Hermione/Ron, Hermione/Viktor, Hermione/Draco, Hermione/Colin, Hermione/Neville.
Warnings: Adult themes that I’m not explaining for fear of ruining the joke.
Summary: The much widowed Hermione Weasley-Krum-Malfoy-Creevey is marrying her fifth husband.
Comments: …I’m probably a bad person for finding this hilarious. But it is, dammit.
One-shot, complete.
Time: A Drabble in Six Parts
Characters/Pairings: Implied Conrad/Yuuri, fainter mostly one-sided Wolfram/Yuuri. Gunter. Annissina.
Warnings: None
Summary: A series of Conrad and Yuuri character vignettes.
Comments: Before I was ever a Murata Ken fangirl, I was a Conrad/Yuuri fangirl. (But I have the attention span of a mayfly that just drunk a gallon of coffee, so… my interests never last long.) And this was my favorite fanfic. The mood of this fic is soft, almost ominous in a way that foreshadows the events to come. (…Conrad, you idiot. And yes, I say this even with full knowledge of why he did what he did.) There’s a fair amount of humor there as well, that I found immensely entertaining. And I would desperately like to know what Anissina’s “Sexy Sucking-san” actually does. Heh. But more than that is the mood of the fic. It… has the calmness and serenity almost that I associate with Conrad/Yuuri, with an undertone that says “They’re happy and cheerful now, but we all know what happens next.” And I like fics that manage to pull that type of complex sort of mood off.
One-shot, complete.
False Summer
Characters/Pairings: Kakashi/Obito/Rin
Warnings: Implied ghost sex
Summary: Kakashi dreams of his dead and dying. A surprisingly real dream.
Comments: This is amazingly well-done. It’s a fascinatingly surreal-but-not look at Kakashi’s dreamscape, as well as a nice look at Obito, who never shows up in fic. And… it made me feel for Kakashi, in a way that fics rarely manage to do. Frankly, Kakashi’s a little too broken for me to usually want to read fic about him. I like more cheerful fare, thanks. But this is good enough that I like it nonetheless.
One-shot, complete.
Switched
Characters/Pairings: Sakura, Naruto, Inner Sakura/Kyuubi. No, really.
Warnings: Some mature humor and…whatever the hell you warn for when a secondary personality and a nine-tailed demon fox sealed in a kid’s bellybutton start flirting. Beastiality implications?
Summary: When Naruto and Sakura switch bodies due a mysterious statue in an attic they were assigned to clean, they must adjust to living in the other’s body temporarily. Will Naruto survive girl-bonding with Ino? Will Sakura survive Inner Sakura’s arguments with Kyuubi?
Comments: Usually, I’m not a big fan of the body-switching stories, but this is very well done. The writing’s solid and entertaining, the characterization’s good, and the author has a knack for really showing the absurdity of the situion. The Inner Sakura/Kyuubi hints didn’t hurt, either. Where else am I ever going to find the crack pairing of all crack pairings? And I could not stop laughing during the climactic chapter. God, I want to spoil it just so I can laugh about it some more, but I won’t. *sigh*
Multi-chapter, complete.
Guardian
Characters/Pairings: Nokoru, the Dark Kamui, Suoh, Akira.
Warnings: None
Summary: Nokoru speaks with an unwelcome visitor.
Comments: This is just beautifully, beautifully written. The prose didn’t quite captivate me at first. (I’ve come across Natalie Baan’s writing before, and while she’s a good author, her writing style doesn’t quite work for me.) But the concept’s utterly brilliant, and she managed to utterly capture what drives Nokoru at the end. And Suoh and Akira’s frustration as they watched Nokoru confront the dark Kamui from a distance was very well done.
One-shot, complete.
The Language of Fans
Characters/Pairings: Nokoru.
Warnings: None
Summary: Each Imonoyama has his fan.
Comments: …I don’t believe I never recced this. It’s a beautiful character vignette on Nokoru that does an excellent job of capturing his distance from everyone else, while still keeping him Nokoru.
One-shot, complete.
Saving Grace
Characters/Pairings: Sakura-centric. Vaguely future Kakashi/Sakura, and vaguely past Kiba/Sakura. Naruto, Sasuke.
Warnings: …Let’s see. Sexual innuendo, dark and disturbing content, and the narrative character going insane. Oh, and character death.
Summary: After a disastrous mission, Sakura must fight her ghosts as she slowly slides into insanity, while attempting to discover the person responsible for the disaster.
Comments: This is much darker than I usually like, and I’m hesitant to rec it because of that. As a general rule of thumb, I feel profoundly discomfited when the narrative character is going insane. But…it’s also very well-written and well-done. The author is apparently a nursing student, so she get a lot of the details of Sakura being a medic-nin right that a lot of people would just gloss over. A lot of the characterization, in Sasuke in particular, is a great deal darker than I’m used to seeing, and a lot less optimistic, but it fits the mood of the fic. And I’m fascinated in seeing what on earth is going to happen. It’s just not usually my type of fic.
Multi-chapter, incomplete.
20 Random Facts About Murata Ken, Great Sage
Characters/Pairings: Murata-centric. Past Murata/Original King. Yuuri, Wolfram, Jennifer, Gwendal, Yozak.
Summary: Twenty random facts about Murata Ken.
Comments: Well, we all know that I’m a complete sucker for Murata. I’m not a big fan of the twenty facts meme hopping around livejournal, but somehow, with Murata, it seems to work. I think it’s because there’s so much you can see in Murata’s character, that it serves as an interesting insight into his character. Besides, I found this line absolutely hilarious: “During the state dinner with the dignitary who looked exactly like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, the only thing that made it bearable was looking across the table at Yuuri’s expression of badly suppressed horror and knowing that he saw the same thing.”
Notes: And to the spammer who attempted to spam my comments 19 times yesterday while I wasn’t checking my email, fuck you. And I moderate my comments, so neener neener neener. I was still pissy about getting 19 comment notifications with the same goddamn message though.
One-shot, complete.
Dancing With My Shadow
Characters/Pairings: Tsubasa!Seishirou, X!Seishirou
Warnings: None
Summary: Seishirou has an interesting conversation with Seishirou.
Comments: This is just completely and utterly how a fic like this should be written. The two Seishirou’s are appropriately wary of each other, yet intrigued by the other, and the parallels and the foreshadowing and the discussions on fate made me grin like the fangirl I am.
One-shot, complete.
Untitled Trigun, Yu Yu Hakusho
Characters/Pairings: Yuusuke and Wolfwood
Warnings: None
Summary: Yuusuke and Wolfwood are good role models. Or not.
Comments: This drabble just made me laugh. And laugh. And laugh. And made up for the complete freaking absence of any new and decent fics in my normal fandoms. *sigh*
One-shot, complete.
A Willing Walk in Hell
Characters/Pairings: Orochimaru/Kabuto
Warnings: Dark graphic sex. Iffy consent. How old is Kabuto, anyway?
Summary: Kabuto meets his new master in the woods one night.
Comments: A nicely done view of the dynamics of Orochimaru and Kabuto’s relationship. Dark and incredibly fucked up. And I find the fact that Kabuto chooses to submit to Orochimaru important in that he still has a choice. While Orochimaru mostly just uses him. Huh. I’m kind of tempted to write out a long and boring essay on Kabuto and Orochimaru’s character dynamics now. Because this is mostly how I view them, but not quite.
One-shot, complete.
The Alternative
1 2 3 4
Characters/Pairings: Rikuou/Kazahaya
Warnings: None
Summary: What happens if Rikuou isn’t the one who finds Kazahaya that cold winter night? What happens if another, less ethical, group finds him instead?
Comments: Moderately lengthy fic! With a plot! And fluff! And Rikuou/Kazahaya interaction! Excuse me while I fangirl. It suffers from an overuse of ellipses, but other than that, it’s a pretty decent fic. Probably one of the best in this fandom, considering how small it is.
Notes: I’m watching Naruto in the background while I’m reading and writing recs. And I just wanted to mention that Kabuto is an underused and underrated character and please write more fic about him? Please?
Multi-chapter, complete.
Freud
Characters/Pairings: Rikuou/Kazahaya
Warnings: Um. Sexual implications of dubious consent, but no actual sex.
Summary: An old skull of a noted Freudian psychologist that Kakei sends the two of them to steal splits Kazahaya into three warring personalities: the id, the superego, and the ego. Will the three of them merge back together before Kazahaya’s id ties Rikuou up and has his way with him?
Comments: Very well written, and I found it absolutely hilarious. I have a fondness for split personalities, and, well, this is an intriguing take on that. And reading about Id!Kazahaya trying to make out with Superego!Kazahaya cracks me up.
One-shot, complete.
The Evils of Suggestive Product Placement
Characters/Pairings: Rikuo/Kazahaya
Warnings: None
Summary: Kazahaya hates stocking lip balm. Except when he doesn’t.
Comments: Er. I have a new series I’m obsessive about. And this is just… It’s sweet, and it’s sexy, and it keeps them almost absolutely in character. (I could wish for more evidence that the two were already in a relationship before they started making out, because that threw me off for a couple seconds, but that was my only complaint.) And these two are sexy together.
One-shot, complete.
Reasons Not To Go To Sleep
Character/Pairings: Koteshi/Izumo
Warnings: None
Summary: Koteshi and Izumo are never apart.
Comments: For some reason unbeknownst to me, this is one of my favorite pairings in Naruto. And this is a nicely done pair of short ficlets dealing with their relationship. It’s just…it’s incredibly sweet, in a more than a little dysfunctional way. And I have a fondness for sweetly dysfunctional relationships.
Pair of loosely related one-shots, complete.
