Comments: I have a soft spot in my heart for anyone who can make utterly crack pairings actually work. With Fai and Sakura…I’m tempted to call it almost a purely physical thing, but that’s…somewhat true and not entirely true. There’s honest affection there, and they do care for each other, but there is a mostly physical element ot the relationship. But there’s also parallels between Chi and Sakura, and acknowledgement of just how important Syaoran is to Sakura, and it’s just very, very well done.
Notes: I apologize for not reccing yesterday. I had a midterm at 7:45 at night, and that completely screwed up my schedule and meant that basically I wasn’t at a computer all day. Which makes it kind of hard to rec.

Fascination With Powerful People

Comments: A nice, dark vignette on Orochimaru and his reflections on what draws him to Sasuke. It’s nicely done and I like what really caught his attention about Sasuke.

Comments: I like this. It does an excellent job of showing the dynamics of their relationship early on, while still keeping them as a team. Sakura’s still obsessed with Sasuke, but she does care for Naruto; Naruto’s just happy they’re both here; and Sasuke finds their presence to be comforting. And I liked the bit of foreshadowing at the end.

Summary: Team 7 is growing old, but the effects of a ritual with Kyuubi’s power echo.
Comments: Wow. I’d read the prologue for this a while ago, didn’t particularly catch my interest. But with the first chapter up… I’d say this story has the most potential of any of the stories I’ve been reading. It feels like it’s building up to be an epic, and an interesting epic, and God I want more long plotty fics. (Otherwise known as epics).
Notes: I don’t know if I’m going to be reccing much today because I decided to try making pumpkin pie from scratch. And I mean buying the damn pumpkins and making the puree myself from scratch, scratch. So I doubt I’m going to be online enough to search for fics.
…Especially since I have two midterms and a decent start on a major project due this week. Why am I making pumpkin pie again?

Comments: …I now almost want to replay FF7. I didn’t even particularly like that game. But Aeris in this cracks me up. Don’t really remember her that well, so I don’t know if she’s in character or not, but it still amuses me to no end.

Requiem for a Trio
Characters/Pairings: Sanada, Yukimura, Renji, Rikkai.
Summary: The creation of Yukimura’s Rikkai.
Comments: This is actually going to be a multi-parter, but the one part up so far fits the summary. Though it’s not going to stay that way if/when the author writes more chapters. But, anyway! This is an excellent fic. It’s beautifully written. Yukimura’s characterization makes me squee with joy. And the way he handled the club members loitering around at the start of practice rather than warming up was just beautiful.
Theoretically multi-chapter, incomplete. Works as a complete one-shot, though.

A Song That Never Ends

Summary: Niou has been humming a song all day. A maddeningly familiar, maddeningly catchy song. What is it?
Comments: God, Niou’s perfect in this. And I laughed my ass off at the choice of lyrics. And the whole Yagyuu stopping Niou from succeeding in his prank for most of the day just because it amused him cracks me up.

Stepping Back

Summary: Tsunade examines herself without her genjutsu of youth, and contemplates immortality.
Comments: This is something I’d been half-wanting to see for ages, but no one was writing this. The two of them are excellently characterized, and it just makes me think more about Tsunade’s reasons for keeping her appearance young, and just how much appeal Orochimaru’s immortality would have for her. And any fic that can make me think makes me happy.

Unexpected
Characters/Pairings: Vaguely Naruto/Sakura/Sasuke of some sort. Kakashi, Tsunade.

Summary: Sometimes, you have to betray one family to preserve another. Sakura and Naruto abandon Konoha for Sasuke.
Comments: I debated briefly on whether I should rec this, but god, Tsunade breaks my heart in this. And it’s very well done, without making the mistake of softening the characters past the point of reason. There are consequences to their actions, and that’s what I see too rarely in fics like these.

Death Of A Soul
Characters/Pairings: Sakura, Itachi.

Summary: The village of Konoha believes that Haruno Sakura is dead. But instead, she has been kidnapped by Uchiha Itachi.
Comments: Yeah, basically your standard eventual Sakura/Itachi fic. But unlike most the other fics along these lines that I’ve read, boggled at, and mocked mercilessly, this is well done. It keeps them all reasonably in character, even Itachi (who is in my experience usually the worst butchered in these fics). It’s just well done, and it’s a fic that I can see an awful lot of potential in, even though it seems to be dead. Alas.

Summary: Suoh and Nokoru are attempting to keep their relationship a secret. But Akira has an interestingly bad sense of timing.
Comments: I’ve been wanting decent CCD fic for ages. And this is nice, in-character, fluff. It’s cute, funny, and just what I was looking for. And I will never fail to be amused at Nokoru’s antics.

Comments: A very nicely done H/R/H fic. It’s nicely written, a decent premise, and just… it’s kind of what I can actually see happening sometime in the future. Not entirely (it was written pre-HBP, and I can tell), but mostly. And I like the Hermione characterization.
Notes: I was planning on having my blog imported to the new website by my 500th post. Unfortunately, I’m on my 495th, and, well, I’m running into problems. I just have too many posts for the solution I was planning, and the other possible solutions are either awkward as all hell, or not practical. (Such as manually importing each and every post into the website. I could, yes.) So… really I just wanted to bitch about that.

The Geas

Comments: …I really kind of feel guilty for liking this. But I like fairy tale novelizations, and that tends to lead to me giving more fairy tale AUs a chance than I really should. And it’s well-written. It’s just…I’m reccing a Kaoru Cinderella fic. I feel unclean. (I’m joking. Mostly.)
Seriously though, it’s well-written, and the scenes with Kaoru and Kenshin arguing just sparkle. And the Misao/Aoshi subplot is fairly well-done as well.

Comments: A very nicely done look at the philosophy of the Kamiya Kasshin Ryu, and at Kaoru. To be honest, I kind of dislike Kaoru in the original series (…No, I am not a Tomoe fan either. And the Kenshin shipwars are completely and utterly inane and stupid), because I found her naive, and frankly weak. Collapsing into bed because her boyfriend left her just irritated me. And she never really did anything to change my opinion of her. But this fic still manages to make me like her, at least briefly, whenever I read it.

To Broken Men

Comments: It’s well written, a fascinating couple, and just made me grin madly. (I also desperately want to read the promised sequel, where they seduce Sasuke. Um. It probably won’t be as porny as it sounds.)

Trick of Love

Summary: Everyone warns them not to live together, but they do anyway. To save money, and to keep from being separated. Sexual tension ensues.
Comments: I like the first half more than the second half, I’ll admit. Mainly because the second half is the half with graphic sex, and sorry, I barely ever read graphic sex scenes because they’re boring. But it’s well done, and I mostly like the characterizations. I like the way that Harry and Ron are still very male, especially since, sadly, that is frequently not the case. I found Ron and Harry’s relationship being the first of the three to form an interesting idea. For the most part, the threesomes I read start off het or as threesomes. It’s much rarer to see them start off as slash, and I kind of like the way that that changes the dynamics. And it’s a well-written fic.

Bed and Board

Summary: After the war, the world around them erupts in a frenzy of domesticity, until it almost seems that the three of them are the only ones left who remember the horrors of the war.
Comments: An interesting post-war fic. I like the way that Harry is brought into Ron and Hermione’s relationship. And I kind of like the world that the author drew. It should be nice and reassuring, but it comes off as creepy, and I like it when the author manages to pull off an effect like that. And, you know, it’s a R/H/H threesome.
