Untitled
Characters/Pairings: Yuuko appears in all. And, separated by comma if they appear within the same drabble, separated by semi-colon if they appear in the next drabble, are: Dumbledore; Yuki; Hanajima; Watanuki, Ed (by implication), Ryoma (by implication), D (by implication)
Warnings: None
Summary: 7 drabbles here, five of which I rec. (The other two I don’t even know the bloody series they’re from, but I’ll assume they’re good if you know what they are.)
Comments: Yes, this is further evidence that xxxHolic can be crossed over with anything well. And some of the interactions are just amazingly well done. My favorite line was “She’s a tall woman, with an impressive rack, but something about her makes you keep your eyes slightly above her collar bone at all times.” describing Yuuko, because if that isn’t how Yuki would view Yuuko, I read the wrong manga for them both. And the last drabbles is sheer genius. Because I said so.

Discoveries Mirror (because ff.net is a bitch about changing all their urls and totally screwing up my bookmarks)
Characters/Pairings: Yuki, Kyou, Tohru
Warnings: None
Summary: When Hanajima and Uotani discover the Souma curse, Yuki and Kyou take Tohru and flee to the mountains before Akito can order her memory erased.
Comments: Merrow’s probably one of the best authors in the Fruits Basket fandom (even if I haven’t been seriously in it for a year or so, and have no idea who most the best ones are) and Discoveries is by far my favorite fic in the fandom. It’s just so very nicely done, and it deals so very well with how they would deal with suddenly living on their own in the mountains, and my inner OT3 fangirl is just jumping up and down with glee. Even though it’s technically gen. (Why are there no true Yuki/Tohru/Kyo fics in Fruits Basket fandom? I dream of the day that I get a novel-length, excellently written, tightly plotted Yuki/Tohru/Kyo fic that resolves the Souma mysteries and gives the resolution that the Fruits Basket manga seems like it’s never going to give. I love Fruits Basket, but give me a break. I want resolution, dammit.
…And I got completely sidetracked, didn’t I? Er. Read the fic.

Spotted!
CHaracters/Pairings: Tohru, Yuki, Kyou, Hatsuharu, Momiji, Shigure, Ayame, Uotani, Hanajima, Hatori… If they’re in the Fruits Basket anime, they’re in here.
Warnings: None
Summary: When Tohru is discovered by a talent agency, everyone’s lives are thrown into disorder.
Comments: Yes, I know, it sounds like all those awful teeny “Let’s make Tohru a supermodel and Yuki and/or Kyou princes, and have them meet.” I promise you, this isn’t like that. It’s funny, and I’d say the author managed to do a wonderful job of getting everyone’s reactions to Tohru’s newfound fame perfectly. Especially the scene where Ayame takes over the photo shoot with his own clothes. The author doesn’t make the mistake of catapulting Tohru too far into fame too fast, and it’s just a very, very well done fic.

Emperor’s New Clothes
Characters/Pairings: Ayame, Akito, Hatori. A little Hatori/Ayame and Hatori/Akito.
Warnings: Akito is a warning all on his own.
Summary: Akito visits Ayame and demands the finest suit of clothes for an event that will be the happiest of the Soumas’ lives.
Comments: This is nicely done. Even though Akito’s weak, and scarce able to move about by himself, he’s still intimidating and dangerous. The sharp bitterness of Akito’s speeches, and Ayame’s reactions to Akito are just very well done. And even while dealing with Akito, the author didn’t make the mistake of making him un-Ayame-like. He’s still absurdly cheerful and flamboyant, and the way he just throws himself full-heartedly into the project is just so Ayame. But it also shows how even the most cheerful Jyunishi is still affected by Akito, and it’s just fascinating to me watching them interact. And the concept behind this is just wonderful.

Multiple drabbles
Characters/Pairings: Fye/Ashura; Hatori, Shigure, Ayame; Kurogane/Fye; Syaoran/Yukito (unrequited), Sakura/Yukito (unrequited)
Warnings: None
Summary: Not doing a summary for four drabbles. No way. Nuh uh.
Comments: Katharos is an excellent author, and I love all her drabbles. Her angst is subtle and gorgeous, her humor is hilarious, and her general/romance stuff is insightful. What more could you want? (Besides a million dollars and an anime character of your choice, of course.)

Love Remains
Pairings: Um, not many. And the ones that there are would be a spoiler. So not telling.
Warnings: An AU dealing with many of the Soumas we know being ghosts. Does this count as a deathfic?
Summary: When Kyoko gets a job as caretaker of the Souma house, and she and Tohru move in, Tohru doesn’t expect to find ghosts. Much less murderous ones.
Comments: I would sell my soul for more fics like this. It has a plot. The characters are still recognizably themselves, even in the different circumstances that the plot dictates. The plot is well-thought out. The author didn’t resolve the Yuki/Kyou/Tohru threesome love triangle into Yuki/Tohru or Kyou/Tohru (or Kyou/Yuki, which always sort of broke my brain a bit. I’m not into rivalslash). I like that. And it’s just… a nice, slowly developing plotline. And Shigure is hot. Yes, he is.

Home
Pairings: Hatsuharu/Momiji, slight Yuki/Kyou
Warnings: Yaoi
Summary: After a long self-exile, Hatsuharu returns home.
Comments: Haru’s always been one of my favorite characters, so I could hardly resist clicking on a story about him. And it’s just a nice little fic, about leaving and coming home. And the reunions were wonderfully done, with Kyou reacting just perfectly.
One-shot, complete.

Long Denied
Pairings: D/Leon, Shigure/Akito, Kyou/Yuki, Kyou/Tohru, Yuki/Tohru, Kyou/Kagura, Jill/Mime, Hatori/Ayame and I think that’s all.
Warnings: Yaoi and yuri.
Spoilers: For end of Petshop of Horrors.
Summary: Everyone knows that the Souma family has many secrets, but even the Souma members themselves don’t know how deeply their secrets go, nor how the mysterious Count D and his family is involved.
COmments: I love this fanfic. A long, plotful believable crossover fanfic is rarer than gold. Not as valuable, but still rare. When I started reading it, my first reaction to the basic idea was “Why hasn’t anyone written a fanfic about Count D and Souma family before? It’s perfect.” There are some things that bothered me, I admit. I’m not fond of how the author felt the need to make more cross-connections between the series than the basic “Count D is somehow involved in the curse”. Ayame being Leon’s penpal stretched my belief. Tohru’s connection to Count D (which I won’t tell for fear of spoilers) broke my belief. The ending itself felt…I’m thinking anti-climactic, but that really isn’t it. I just have no idea what I’m trying to say.

On the other hand, the author is a good, solid writer, who is willing to take the time to justify her deviations from canon until, while I may not agree with it, but I can see where you could make a case for it being possible from canon. That, for itself, counts for a lot with me. The character interactions are well done, and she makes Shigure/Akito believable to me (I tend to go back and forth on whether I like that pairing. Give me a Mabudachi threesome any day. XD). THe plot itself is fascinating and the way the series are really interwoven mostly believably is rare and wonderful.
