And that’s what I like about it. I don’t tend to see many fics about just plain and simple missions that Ed would be sent on. And well, they can be fairly well done. This one’s nicely written and just a good quick read.

(By the way, I keep misspelling Fullmetal as Fullmental. It seems strangely appropriate.)

The series just sort of tapers off as Harukami seemed to lose inspiration, and frankly, the first two are by far the best, but it is a fairly entertaining series overall.

And the person who he meets (not telling who)…it’s sort of nice, because it’s sort of fixing things, but at the same time, it’s sad because you just feel for Ed. And it’s just, we’re reminded that there a war going on where Ed currently is too, and it almost seems like he’ll never escape tragedies. But it’s almost hopeful at the end too. I like the other person’s reasoning at the end.

COmments: Okay, I have an utterly inexplicable fondness for Havoc/Hawkeye. And I have no idea why Hawkeye seems to go with him so well, but she does. And Harukami does an excellent job of developing their relationship into something realistic, in a very short ficlet.

Comments: Okay, had these pairings been written by anyone else, I would have run screaming at the sight of the pairings. But, hell, it’s Harukami, so I figured it’d be okay. And damn. The first one, I just feel for Fury. He knows damn well that nothing’s going to happen, and he pretty much accepts it, but it’s not like that’s going to change how he feels. And there is a definite scarcity of Fury fanfic. And I like him. The second fic is something else entirely. Even though the concept is something so totally out of character, it works. I can sort of see it happening in a different world. ANd it’s intense, and dark, and very very Ed.

Summary: When Roy Mustang is dragged by his best friend Hughes to a relaxing vacation in the country, he doesn’t expect to get involved in murder cases, old and new, international espionage, and the secrets held tight in the Elric household. An AU set in a 1920s world.
Comments: I have to admit, I read the summary the first time and went “An Agatha Christie AU? What the hell is she thinking?” But you know what? I tried it. And I am now fascinated. I want to know what’s going to happen. I want to know what Ed’s mysterious illness is. I want to know who Scieszka’s sleeping with. I want to know what Trisha Elric really died of. And for a fanfic author to get me that fascinated in knowing what’s going to happen is rare. (Largely due to the proliferance of uncompleted fics where I’m never going to find out what happens). Alas, it isn’t finished yet. But I hope don’t think that the author’s going to abandon it.
Something else I really like about it is the way she deals with the canon couples. I like Izumi and her husband, and Hughes and his wife, and they tend to be completely ignored and forgotten in most fanfics. Here, we get to watch Izumi bonding with her husband, Hughes cooing over Alicia, and all the wonderful, cute details that I remember from the original series. It’s one of the very few AUs that manages to pin the characters while completely changing the situation and world.

“The Gift” and “The Inevitable” drabbles
Pairings: Ed/Al/Winry/Scieszka. Yes, really. Occasional splitting off into sub pairings, but mostly a legit foursome.
Warnings: Graphic sex (in some, not all). Slash. Het. Yuri. Incest. Foursome. Happy domesticity.
Summary: Ed, Al, Winry, and Scieszka are married and mostly settled into happy domesticity, with kids and animals abounding. There are a few bumps, but nothing that can’t be handled.
Comments: Oh my god. A foursome fic not concentrating on the kinky sex bit. Don’t get me wrong, I like the kinky sex bit, but occasionally I want the 2.5 kids and a dog, okay? This is more like 4.5 kids, a couple dogs, and the occasional kinky sex. When they can keep the kids away, at least. It’s well-written - all issues brought up are legitimate issues that Ed and his family would have to face if he settled down. The domesticity is touching. The kids are adorable. The details of their family routine (Al cooking breakfast every morning, Ed being called a housewife by his innocent kid, the wrench) add a wonderful sense of realism, as though you’re practically there in the house. Frankly, I’ve never seen a fic anything like this on the internet, and the fact that it’s about some of my favorite characters is just the icing on the cake.

I will say one word of warning, as the only people who will recognize it enough to be traumatized will probably know what I’m talking about: Corn. Yes, corn. No, I’m not explaining that.

Comments: This is just wonderful. The FMA fandom needs more good humor, and this fits the bill perfectly. Even my favorite underappreciated character Yomiko ReadmanScieszka shows up. Everyone’s in character, and it builds nicely from canon, without being cliched. And the concept is hilarious.

And Rose is, and Winry’s conversation with Mustang is…I have no words. But I’m going to be thinking about this fic for a long, long time.
