So why am I reccing it? Because I originally made this site to keep track of my favorite fics, damnit. And this made me sparkle madly.

Secrets

Summary: Ginny goes through her first year at Hogwarts.
Comments: You know, it’s odd. I wasn’t going into this particularly expecting to enjoy it, despite liking the author. But it’s just very well-written. It starts off slow, but Ginny’s very human and very flawed, and Tom’s just such a magnificently manipulative son-of-a-bitch. I have a few issues with the way Ginny discovered Tom’s manipulativeness, but most of that can be put down to the fact that I’m not a twelve year old girl just discovering that her best friend was using her. So it’s mostly irrelevant. Overall, I just really did enjoy the fic.

Evil Be Thou My Good
Characters/Pairings: Harry, cast, demons.
Warnings: Graphic torture. I’d rate it NC-17 for that alone. Not particularly sexual torture, though a little could kind of be read as such. REALLY DISTURBING. Also, really ruthless Harry.
Summary: As a child, Harry unlocks a puzzle box and unknowingly unleashes a hell beyond his imagination. As an adult, he finds he cannot escape that hell.
Comments: Very, very well-done. Very much reminds me of Simon R. Green. I found Harry’s characterization to be kind of disturbingly plausible. It’s a very different look at Harry defeating Voldemort from anything I’d seen before, and I thought it to be very well done.

Confessions Of A Fat, Ugly Slytherin
Characters/Pairings: Millicent Bulstrode.
Warnings: None
Summary: Watching her classmates primp and preen, Millicent Bulstrode is usually quite happy to be fat and ugly.
Comments: This fanfic has one main flaw: There is no plot. It went onto permanent hiatus before the plotline had quite developed into a proper plot. Other than that though, it’s a nicely done, original fic about a drastically underused character. And I worship Millicent in this.

Four Funerals and a Wedding
Characters/Pairings: Hermione/Ron, Hermione/Viktor, Hermione/Draco, Hermione/Colin, Hermione/Neville.
Warnings: Adult themes that I’m not explaining for fear of ruining the joke.
Summary: The much widowed Hermione Weasley-Krum-Malfoy-Creevey is marrying her fifth husband.
Comments: …I’m probably a bad person for finding this hilarious. But it is, dammit.

Veritaserum

Summary: Years after the trio had an argument and separated, Hermione takes the first steps towards reunification.
Comments: A very nicely done H/R/H fic. It’s nicely written, a decent premise, and just… it’s kind of what I can actually see happening sometime in the future. Not entirely (it was written pre-HBP, and I can tell), but mostly. And I like the Hermione characterization.
Notes: I was planning on having my blog imported to the new website by my 500th post. Unfortunately, I’m on my 495th, and, well, I’m running into problems. I just have too many posts for the solution I was planning, and the other possible solutions are either awkward as all hell, or not practical. (Such as manually importing each and every post into the website. I could, yes.) So… really I just wanted to bitch about that.

Trick of Love
CHaracters/Pairings: Harry/Ron/Hermione

Summary: Everyone warns them not to live together, but they do anyway. To save money, and to keep from being separated. Sexual tension ensues.
Comments: I like the first half more than the second half, I’ll admit. Mainly because the second half is the half with graphic sex, and sorry, I barely ever read graphic sex scenes because they’re boring. But it’s well done, and I mostly like the characterizations. I like the way that Harry and Ron are still very male, especially since, sadly, that is frequently not the case. I found Ron and Harry’s relationship being the first of the three to form an interesting idea. For the most part, the threesomes I read start off het or as threesomes. It’s much rarer to see them start off as slash, and I kind of like the way that that changes the dynamics. And it’s a well-written fic.

Bed and Board

Warnings: Sex.
Summary: After the war, the world around them erupts in a frenzy of domesticity, until it almost seems that the three of them are the only ones left who remember the horrors of the war.
Comments: An interesting post-war fic. I like the way that Harry is brought into Ron and Hermione’s relationship. And I kind of like the world that the author drew. It should be nice and reassuring, but it comes off as creepy, and I like it when the author manages to pull off an effect like that. And, you know, it’s a R/H/H threesome.

hogwarts: a life
Characters/Pairings: Clow, Dumbledore.
Warnings: None
Summary: Dumbledore looks into an old friend’s history at Hogwarts
Comments: I have a weak spot for Clow fics, and this is nicely done. It gives an interesting insight into Clow’s character. And I do find Clow knowing Dumbledore very much believable.

Harry Potter and the Improbable Use of Chaos Theory
Characters/Pairings: Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Harry/Snape, Ron, Hermione, Voldemort, McGonagall/Greebo
Warnings: McGonagall/Greebo. Greebo, as you may know, is Nanny Ogg’s cat. Who occasionally turns human.
Summary: When Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are accidentally transported to Hogwarts, they search for a wizard without finding him, and adopt a baby along the way.
Comments: There are not enough words in the English language to express my love for this fic. Allow me to quote a couple of paragraphs instead:
  ”The House-elves assured them that it was perfectly fine, no trouble at all, and indeed, an honor to be eaten by such a noble cat. “Hinky always was saying it was the way he wanted to go, Nanny Ogg, ma’am.”
  They even helped carry Hermione back to the tower.”
…Am I evil for cracking up at this?

Summary: Zacharias is an unusually cynical Hufflepuff extraordinarily indifferent to the ongoings around him. See the Hogwarts drama from his eyes.
Comments: Unusually, the author did an excellent job of pairing an almost-OC (Is Zacharias Smith ever given an actual personality in the books? Because if so, I missed it) with Draco. The cast of background characters is amusingly batshit insane, and I have a major soft spot for Hufflepuff fics. Especially well-done Hufflepuff fics.
Series of three connected fics, complete.

Draco Malfoy, the Amazing Bouncing… Rat?
Characters/Pairings: Draco/Hermione. Draco/coffee. Ginny/Harry. Lots of other assorted innuendoes.
Warnings: Innuendoes, Fanon!Draco
Summary: When Draco is turned into a white rat and adopted by the Gryffindors, he thinks that Murphy has already done his worst. Boy, is he ever wrong.
Comments: Alright, I admit it. I sometimes like fanon!Draco. He can be interesting when well done, and this is hilarious. Draco is snarky, cynical, and entirely obsessed with sex, coffee, and his hair, in no particular order, and that’s what entertains me. As long as I’m not expecting IC!Draco (and when am I ever expecting IC!Draco in the Harry Potter fandom?) I am thoroughly amused and entertained.

A Distinctly Different Manner of Finding Prince Charming

Warnings: Their relationship doesn’t quite start until after McGonagall’s graduated from Hogwarts, but some have issues with any form of teacher/student relationships.
Summary: When a champion duellist joins the faculty of Hogwarts, 5th year Minerva McGonagall is determined to be unimpressed. She didn’t expect him to be earnest, however.
Comments: THis just had me going “Aw…” at them. Minerva is interesting as teenager, and I liked the third party narrative in this, in the person of Minerva’s best friend Viven. 10 points to whoever figures out who she is before the end. (Obviously, I’m not in the HP fandom often enough to remember all the characters. *sigh*

Warnings: Spoilers for ep. 51. As dark as you’d expect a Tom Riddle and Ed fic to be.
Summary: When Ed becomes a teacher at Hogwarts as he searches for a way home, a young student with a dark nature catches his attention.
Comments: Well written for a complete crack concept. I like this sort of vaguely plausible crack that takes itself seriously, and I rarely get it. I think the way the author had Ed and Tom interact is interesting, and I think her older, more cynical Ed (who makes Snape look like an easy teacher, at least in the amount of work given) is a very interesting look. And, well, I’m sure you know my weakness for interesting crossovers.

Flame and Shadow
Characters/Pairings: Ron/Pansy, past Ron/Hermione, past Ron/OC, past Pansy/Draco, Harry/male!OC
Warnings: Non-romantic het sex. One night stands. Swearing. I wouldn’t rec this for anyone under 18.
Summary: Sometimes, the best relationships come from one that was never romantic.
Comments: I saw the pairings, and kind of boggled (only kind of, because let’s face it. In a fandom where I personally have read Harry/Giant squid and Draco/Giant Squid in the same fic, Ron/Pansy is nothing.) But I gave it a chance because god knows I haven’t been finding much in my other fandoms lately, and it was well-written and interesting. I like the continual contrast between Hermione, who’s everything Ron expected a girlfriend to be - prim, proper, organized - and, well, Pansy. Pansy, who gets drunk, has one-night stands, swears, is messier than Ron. Ron doesn’t have any illusions about Pansy, nor her about him, and it’s just an oddly well-balanced relationship that I enjoyed.

Slytherin Rising
Characters/Pairings: Entire cast of major HP characters, plus a large cast of OCs. Not getting into the pairings, because I get the feeling that by the end of the 8th (planned) book, very few of the pairings are going to be the same as they currently are.
Warnings: Rape and sexual themes from the third story onwards. Also, OCs dominate the story. They’re well-written OCs, I think, but…yeah. It’s also a Slytherin-is-the-cool-house fic, though the author keeps the influence of fanon!Draco on her characterization of Draco down to a dull roar.
Summary: Slytherin House needs a makeover. An epic attempt to redeem Slytherin’s good name.
Comments: First off, I’ll warn you ahead of time. The first 2 books just aren’t that good. The author learned, though, andfrom the 3rd book onwards, the story is excellently written. She rewrote the first four chapters of the first book though, so you can get a taste of her current writing style from that.
That aside, why do I like these books? I love, worship, and adore epic length fics. Nowadays, with the smaller fandoms I’m in, I don’t get them often. But I still love them. And by the third book, these are very well-written and enjoyable.
I will admit that the OCs dominate the story. As the author points out, if you want to redeem Slytherin, it’s not like there’s a lot of characters to work from in the books. And while I do have reservations over the occasional Mary Sue tendencies, the author does a nice job of keeping Deanna and Luella human. And those two are the ones most likely to be Mary Sues, since they’re the focus of the story. And this is just one of those fics that I come back to every 6 months or so when all my current fandoms are slow, and reread.

Anonymous Signs
Pairings: Why, yes, it is another Harry/Ron/Hermione fic. How on earth did you know.
Warnings: Graphic sex
Summary: The Trio explores the Muggle world for the day, as Harry arranges some pleasant surprises for his lovers.
Comments: This is just very very sweet. And the gifts are well thought out, and the fountain pen is just such a perfect gift for Hermione. And I like the fluff.

triofqf: Triangle
Pairings: Harry/Hermione/Ron

Summary: There are rumors flying about the school about the Trio. They aren’t quite sure how to react.
Comments: You know, I can’t quite decide if I like the repetition or not. On the one hand, it does work to show how they’re thinking the same thing. On the other, it’s, well, repetitious. But it’s still a good fic. And I really like Ron’s speculations.

Triquetra
Pairings: Why, yes, I’m still on my Harry/Ron/Hermione kick. Is anyone surprised?
Warnings: Non-graphic sex
Summary: Hermione wants to mark and bind the three of them together. It has some unexpected side effects.
Comments: I actually wasn’t going to rec this at first - it’s certainly not bad, but something about it just doesn’t quite capture my attention, but the author just really manages to nail their characterizations. The bit where Hermione starts talking about researching the effects at the end is just so very her that I couldn’t help but love it.

Be Mine

Summary: Hermione sends the boys anonymous love letters to lift their spirits.
Comments: JUst when I was feeling like some fluff. Sadly, I’m reading four fics simultaneously, and I’m losing track of what’s in which, so I can’t make many comments on this. Except I liked the characterization and just how well they understood each other. How well they understand each other does tend to be what draws me to trio fic.
