Susan’s Horn
Characters/Pairings: Susan
Warnigns: None
Summary: ” “Susan was up to her elbows in rubbishy things when she found it.” Living after the end of the story is never easy, but you can never stop being a Queen of Narnia.”
Comments: I need to learn to write summaries that well. Anyway. This is just a really well-done post-The Last Battle Susan fic. It deals with her sadness and her mourning and her fundamental strength, and I like that. And just… good Susan fics aren’t common enough.
One-shot, complete.
the war of winter
Characters/Pairings: Rukia, Jadis.
Warnings: None
Summary: When Rukia discovers her sword is the bound soul of an ancient queen of ice, she must defeat her.
Comments: The White Witch as Rukia’s zanpakutou is brilliant. And it’s beautifully written, and just made me grin with mad glee.
One-shot, complete.
Growing Up
Characters/Pairings: Susan, Lucy
Warnings: None
Spoilers: For the Last Battle
Summary: On Susan, and Lucy, and what made them different.
Comments: This is… a very interesting look at Susan post-Last Battle. Yes, I’m still on that kick. And this is one of the few fics I’ve found that basically look at Susan and Lucy’s relationship in the context of the last book, to see why Susan didn’t qualify and Lucy did.
One-shot, complete.
What Would Have Followed
Characters/Pairings: Fai, Kurogane, Sakura, Syaoran
Warnings: None
Spoilers: For The Last Magician
Summary: When the group of travellers comes across a dead world, only Fai knows what happened here.
Comments: The atmosphere in this fic is just amazing. It feels like Charn. Or, ah, I think that’s the name of the dead world in The Last Magician. It has been many, many years since I read it. But anyway, the utter desolation, and Fai for once being utterly serious, and just the oppressive isolation of the world around them just works. Perfectly.
One-shot, complete.
Went Forth Unconquered
Characters/Pairings: Susan
Warnings: None
Spoilers: Spoils The Last Battle. If you haven’t read that, then seriously, don’t even read the rest of this review. Major, major spoilers.
Summary: No matter what, Susan is still a Queen of Narnia.
Comments: The end of the Narnia series never fails to irritate me, and Susan’s fate is among the many irritations. This is one of the most coherent (and, yes, less…disturbing than Neil Gaiman’s version of Susan’s story), and it somehow manages to capture a strange sense of serenity about Susan. She strikes me as being both so angry that a lesser mortal would have snapped and gone on a homicidal rampage, and utterly self-contained. And I think that frankly, that’s the best possible reaction Susan could have to the end of the Narnia series.
One-shot, complete.
