Oddly, in some ways this almost feels more like a Ranma 1/2 fanfic to me, but it has more to do with the style of writing than anything else. Because it’s the type of fic that I saw a lot of in the Ranma 1/2 fandom when I was in it, but I don’t seem to see a great deal of any more. Which is too bad, because it’s fun

Comments; I loved this fic just because it fit all of them. Perfectly. I thought Ino’s and Sakura’s sections were the best, but I enjoyed all of them beecause they really captured the difficulties the Naruto series has with letting a character be both feminine and strong, while keeping the characters as very much themselves.

Comments: I’m beginning to get a little tired of Team 7 bonding after Sasuke returns home fics, actually. But this one was so good. I liked the way the author dealt with the way Sasuke changed over the years gone, and just the way Naruto and Sakura were there for him, as always.

Comment: Okay, the entire concept of this is just disturbing and fucked up as all hell. Frankly, that’s some of its appeal. But the author manages to make it work by showing the contrast between the actual reason Naruto and Sakura do it, and the village’s assumptions as to why. Also, it’s vaguely threesome-y, and while there are threesome fics I see that I don’t rec… easiest way to be recced by me is to write a half-decent threesome fic. Probably a bad thing, but oh well.

Comments: I’m really kind of iffy about Neji’s characterization here - he’s both a little too confident and a little too harsh, but for some reason, I really enjoyed this nonetheless. There is a very interesting feel to the story that just goes very well with the Hyuuga clan, and it’s just… despite the fact that I wasn’t that thrilled about aspects of it, something about it just drew me in. And I don’t quite know what.

Survival Training

Comments: Have you ever read a fic and just went “Oh my god. That’s the perfect explanation for that”? Well, this is one of those fics. I puzzled over the last line for a minute or two because I’m slow like that, then went “Wait a second… that’s brilliant!” Except as I think about it further, there’s flaws in the theory, but they’re the type of flaws that make me want to write a longer fanfic developing it.

Lady Uchiha

Summary: Lady Uchiha lives on, after her husband and teammates’ death.
Comments: Wow. Just…wow. This is one of the most beautifully done fics that I’ve seen in ages. It’s melancholy, but not crushingly so. It’s Sakura living on after the deaths of Naruto and Sasuke, with only her children by Sasuke to really keep her anchored to the world, and the author strikes the right note with that. The children are people in their own right, who’ve grown up without a father among people who remember their father and uncle too well, and they’re well characterized like that. The characterizations in all of this is just beautiful. And it’s just an amazing fic.

A New Bloodline

But Neji’s ‘Why am I surrounded by crazy people?’ reaction was just perfect, and I was just laughing my ass off here.

And reading this, I’m torn between wanting to kick her father for taking so long to see Hinata, and wanting to dance with joy because he’s finally beginning to give a damn about her.

Why Older Brothers are Born First

Comments: I totally thought this was a Bleach fanfic at first and was immensely confused. But most fics don’t deal with Sasuke and Itachi’s relationship as brothers at all. And this is…frankly, something I could kind of see happening in the series. Probably minus the kiss. But it’s well done, and it’s an interesting look at Sasuke and Itachi’s relationship.
Notes: Um. I apologize for not updating for so long. I am having an immensely stressful semester this year, and was feeling guilty every time I was reading fanfic rather than working on homework. And the guilt was tripled whenever I actually started reccing. I just turned in a project worth 25% of my grade in a class where I’m having some problems, so I’m mostly over my issues. At least until my second project in that same class gets a little closer to being done.

Comments: I like the dynamics of the team in this. I like the way that Yondaime’s characterized as kind of Naruto-ish, in a much more mature way. I like the way Rin decides to make sure her teammates at least eat lunch properly. (Especially since her rationale comes more from being from a medic-nin family than being the only girl. Because sometimes the ways the girls in the series are treated *coughflower-arranging classescough* make my eyes roll). I like the young!Kakashi characterization - kind of has a stick up his ass, but is still a kid. In some ways, at least. Obito’s characterization is kind of bland, but the rest of them make up for it.

Girls Have Needs Too

And… it made me feel for Kakashi, in a way that fics rarely manage to do. Frankly, Kakashi’s a little too broken for me to usually want to read fic about him. I like more cheerful fare, thanks. But this is good enough that I like it nonetheless.

Summary: When Naruto and Sakura switch bodies due a mysterious statue in an attic they were assigned to clean, they must adjust to living in the other’s body temporarily. Will Naruto survive girl-bonding with Ino? Will Sakura survive Inner Sakura’s arguments with Kyuubi?
Comments: Usually, I’m not a big fan of the body-switching stories, but this is very well done. The writing’s solid and entertaining, the characterization’s good, and the author has a knack for really showing the absurdity of the situion. The Inner Sakura/Kyuubi hints didn’t hurt, either. Where else am I ever going to find the crack pairing of all crack pairings? And I could not stop laughing during the climactic chapter. God, I want to spoil it just so I can laugh about it some more, but I won’t. *sigh*
