Domesticity
Pairings: Touya/Yukito
Warnings: None
Summary: A fluffy domestic scene in the life of Hanshin!Touya and Yukito.
Comments: This is wonderfully done. It’s just…it’s soft and sweet and so wonderfully IC. The author manages to firmly establish their characters as Hanshin Republic-style Touya and Yukito, while still keeping them as Touya and Yukito. My only complaint is that Touya’s dislike of Syaoran seemed a little…strained. Yes, I know Touya has disliked Syaoran in two different worlds, but I don’t really think that he knows enough about Syaoran to dislike him in this world. On the other hand, that was only a couple sentences, so who cares? It’s still a thoroughly enjoyable fic.
One-shot, complete.

Sea
Pairings: Kurogane/Fai
Warnings: None
Summary: Kurogane understands people. Everyone but Fai.
Comments: I think that this is definitely an interesting look at Kurogane. Usually, I think of him being extra-perceptive when it comes to Fai, so it’s interesting to see a fic from a different point of view.
One-shot, complete.

He Wants Me
Pairings: Mentioned Kurogane/Fai, unrequited Kurogane/Souhi and Kurogane/Ginryuu
Warnings: None
Summary: Ginryuu and Souhi fight over who loves Kurogane more
Comments: I am so very amused by the concept of this fic. I never really fell in love with Ali-san’s style of writing, but it’s still a fun fic. And I like the concept of Kurogane’s two swords fighting over him.

Tsubasa Reservoir ChronicleApril 25, 2005 7:40 pm

Untitled
Pairings: Fai/Kurogane, mentions of past Ashura/Fai
Warnings: Mentions of previous sex
Summary: Even when Fai talks about his past, he doesn’t say much
Comments: I’m a little torn about reccing this fic. It isn’t really anything that unique or special, but something about it just appeals to me. I think it’s the calmness and the post-coital glow. My biggest problem is that Kurogane’s too mushy, but ah well. I still rather enjoyed it.
Side note: I just went through the entire Rayearth section on ff.net. Dear fucking god. I wrote fics of that quality when I was in fifth grade. There are very few good Rayearth fics. ANd the few that exist, I don’t feel like reading because they aren’t what I want. Wah.
One-shot, complete.

Tsubasa Reservoir ChronicleApril 4, 2005 3:11 pm

Trapped
Pairings: Slight Fye/Ashura
Warnings: Um, mentions of mass death
Summary: How Fye got his tattoo
Comments: This is an exceedingly plausible look at how Fye might have gotten his mark, and why he would refuse to use magic again. Frankly, I now really want him to use magic again just to see what happens, but then I tend towards the sadistic.
One-shot, complete.

Flowers for Her Hair
Pairings: Sakura/Syaoran
Warnings: None
Spoilers: Through chapter 50
Summary: It’s April 1st, and the gang celebrates Syaoran’s and Sakura’s birthdays.
Comments: I like this. It’s cute and sweet and very much in the original feel of the series. Although I get the vague feeling I’ve read part of this before, so I hope I haven’t recced this already. But I’m not bothering to check.
One-shot, complete.

Wait For Me
Pairings: Sakura/Syaoran
Warnings: None
Summary: A speculation on what might happen at the end of the series.
Comments: I go back and forth on how much I like Sakura/Syaoran, but this just is sad. And sweet. And I like it because it’s just… I have such a difficult time figuring out how Sakura and Syaoran are going to end up because I desperately want a happy ending for them, I just don’t see how. And this just…Syaoran’s so willing to sacrifice himself for Sakura, and it deals with what Sakura wanted to tell him in the first place…

Hell, I have no clue what I’m saying. Go read it anyway.
One-shot, complete.

Phases
Pairings: Touya/Yukito (Clow country version)
Warnings: None
Summary: A vignette on Touya and Yukito’s relationship.
Comments: I’m feeling rather triumphant right now, because I knew I had seen a Clow country Touya/Yukito fanfic, but I forgot to bookmark it. And this is a wonderful development of how their relationship might work in that universe. I like Touya and Yukito, anyway.
One-shot, complete.

Snow Days
Pairings: Light Kurogane/Fye
Warnings: None
Summary: On a snowy day in yet another world, Kurogane and Fye discuss Ceres.
Comments: This is going into my small list of favorite favorite Tsubasa fics. I love the way she characterizes Fye - the cheerfulness with an edge. I thought she dealt with his relationship with Ashura nicely as well - most people, if they deal with Ashura, seem to go for the “Oh, angst. Woe is me. Angst angst angst angst” type of situation. And if I wanted that, I’d go read a fic about Kamui. This is more subtle, but you get a more interesting view of their relationship through what Fye doesn’t say as much as what he does say. And I like Fye and Kurogane playing in the snow. Fye is evil.
One-shot, complete.

Alternatives
Pairings: Kurogane/Fai
Warnings: None
Spoilers: Um, you need to have read up to chapter 69 to understand what’s going on.
Summary: When they cannot speak, Kurogane begins to understand.
Comments: I have been fighting off the most unclear plotbunnies on this particular plot in Tsubasa, and I finally - finally - get a good fic on it that’s beginning to get the bunnies to solidify a bit. Cairnsy is one of my two or three favorite authors in the Tsubasa fandom, and this deals with what happened in Shurano nicely. It still doesn’t resolve many of the issues that have been driving me nuts, but it’s a very nice mood piece. And I need more fics exploring Fai and Kurogane dealing with the situation revealed in ch. 68. Good ones, preferably.
One-shot, complete.

Under This Flooded Sky series
Whispers in the Dark
A Wing and A Prayer
The Gentle Fall
Carry this Weight
Ashes on the Sand
Pairings: Seishirou/Syaoran. Possibly some sort of Kamui/Subaru/Hokuto, though I’m not sure about that yet (No, probably not a threesome. Though, you know, now that I think about it, I think I would like to see a real Kamui/Subaru/Hokuto fic). Syaoran/Sakura, Fai/Kurogane.
Warnings: Slash, slight citrus, I have no idea what Syaoran’s and Seishirou’s ages are in Tsubasa, but there’s a definite age gap if that squicks you
Spoilers: for up through chapter 52 of Tsubasa.
Summary: Tsubasa!Seishirou makes a Bet. With Syaoran.
Comments: I so knew someone was going to do this the second I read the relevant chapters. Fortunately, it’s well done. Sephy’s an author I’ve read before, in the Yami no Matsuei fandom, and she is a good author. Stylistically, I sometimes dislike her writing - I tend to like fairly unelaborate writing, and I can easily get lost in those long paragraphs of description. But she has a knack for making me like her stories despite that, which is no mean feat. But it’s dark, and funny when it should be, and the tensions in the group are just so excellently done. And the similarities between Tsubasa!Seishirou and Syaoran, and Tokyo Bablyon/X!Seishirou and Subaru are something that fascinated me from the beginning, and I’m thoroughly enjoying reading a more thorough development. Not to mention someone finally developing the Tsubasa version of Hokuto and Subaru.
Series of one-shots, incomplete.

Untitled fanfic
Pairings: Sakura/Syaoran
Warnings: None
Spoilers: For Vol. 2. Though, really, they tell you what’s going to happen at the very beginning, but it might take some idiot one by surprise.
Summary: After Sakura wakes, Syaoran stands in the rain. And begins to adjust.
Comments: This is just pretty. And sad. And very much what a fic taking place at the end of Volume 2 should be. And it’s just…Syaoran’s so determined, and protective, and sweet that I just want to hug him.
One-shot, complete.

Tsubasa Reservoir ChronicleMarch 10, 2005 7:41 pm

Burnt Bridges
Pairings: Implied one-sided Fye/Kurogane
Warnings: None, really
Summary: Fye and Kurogane discuss homes and running away.
Comments: Very much how I can see the two of them. Frankly, I prefer a Kurogane who returns Fye’s feelings (Don’t all drop dead with shock, now). But….really, the characterization in this is nice. Fye and Kurogane just play off each other so well, and I adore me my mostly gen fic. And Kurogane’s just so very much himself, aggressive and blunt and so very loyal. And Fye, too, is his usual carefully cheerful mysterious self. And it just works.
One-shot, complete.

Tsubasa Reservoir ChronicleMarch 9, 2005 3:55 pm

Taking Time for Tea
Pairing: Fai/Kurogane
Warning: None
Summary: Over a series of loosely-connected drabbles, we see Fai and Kurogane’s relationship slowly evolve into something more.
Comments: There are times when I feel like throwing out my keyboard and never writing again, because I know I’m never, in a million years, going to be able to write this well. This is one of those times. This is just…superb, the interactions between the two, some humorous, some serious, some sweet. The way you see their relationship deepening slowly over the course of the series of drabbles, without having to go into details. It’s just…damn. I would kill just to have even half her talent with words.
One-shot, complete.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle 1:40 pm

Cry
Pairings: Mild Fai/Kurogane
Warnings: None
Spoilers: For the end of Volume 2
Summary: Fai believes there’s strength in being able to cry. Kurogane believes strength lies in ambition.
Comments: I go back and forth a bit in how much I like this fic. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but there’s just something subtly off about it to me. Hence, why I’ve been hesitating to recommend it. On the other hand, it’s a nice little chat between Fai and Kurogane when Syaoran is standing in the rain at the end of Volume 2. The characterization is among the better I’ve seen, though that seems to be where I’m having a problem with it. It’s just so close to being absolutely how I see them that I get jarred because they aren’t quite right. Or something. Yes. But it’s still a nicely done fanfic that’s a good read for any Fai/Kurogane fan.
One-shot, complete.

Tsubasa Reservoir ChronicleMarch 8, 2005 10:05 pm

Untitled ficlet
Pairings: Implied Fai/Kurogane
Warnings: None
Summary: Fai likes introducing Kurogane to new experiences. Like coffee. (Yes, coffee. Pervert.) Kurogane refuses to admit he likes them.
Comments: Basically just a sweet little ficlet where Fai’s trying to get Kurogane to drink a girly sounding “mocha frappucino”. (Oh, come on. Like Starbucks hasn’t spread across the dimensions by now. XD) I like it because it’s just so very much how they interact in the series, with a tad bit of innuendo at the end. Though come to think of it, a little innuendo’s also canon (at least in Mokona’s eyes. Mokona should so be writing fanfic).
One-shot, complete.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Crossovers, XXXHolic, X/1999 8:29 pm

Travel Companions
Pairings: Implied Seishirou/Subaru, but probably not the Seishirou you’re thinking
Warning: Slash
Summary: Post-Rainbow Bridge Subaru decides he wishes to travel the worlds. Yuuko, being the wise, amused, and sadistic person she is, assigns him the first and last travelling companion you would imagine. Yes, Tsubasa!Seishirou.
Comments: If it’s a Tsubasa fic, I’m never quite sure whether to count it as a crossover. Especially if it also has a lot of XXXHolic stuff in it. That aside, this is the perfect solution to what happens to Seishirou in X. I mean, hell, Clamp’s even kind enough to provide their own spare Seishirou, for Subaru’s personal use, I’m sure. The fanfic itself is not extraordinarily well-written, but it’s good, solid writing that suits the fic. And the concept is wonderful. I really enjoyed the omake, too.
One-shot, complete. Optional Subaru-POV followup available as well.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Crossovers, Card Captor SakuraMarch 7, 2005 5:45 am

Time After Time
Pairings: Eriol/Tomoyo, Syaoran/Sakura
Warnings: None, really
Summary: We all knew that the Tsubasa gang would end up in the CCS universe eventually. So, what happens when the inevitable happens?
Comments: My only complaint is that it’s too short, dammit. It’s the first part of a planned multichapter that never got off the ground. That aside, Meg is a wonderful, wonderful Eriol/Tomoyo author, who managed to convert me to it a year or so ago. Alas, I then tried to find some good Eriol/Tomoyo fanfics on ff.net, which eventually lead to me screaming in horror at the sheer number of “Tomoyo the goth meetz Eriol the sk8er! Will the two teens from totally different wolrds getover their difs and find TRU LUV 4EVER! R&R” fics. No really. My eyes bleed at the memories.

But back to the commenting on this fic. Yes. Right. Well, she’s an excellent author. I like the way Tomoyo and Eriol work together to deal with the Tsubasa gang. The text messaging is a cute idea that actually works well, once I figured out what was going on (Look, I skim at first. One time I finished a book and didn’t realize that one of the minor characters had died until I read the sequel. Compared to that, missing “His cell phone rang. Eriol flipped it open.” is nothing). …RIght. I’m getting offtopic and rambly. Go read this fanfic anyway.
One-shot, incomplete.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle 12:16 am

Tea and Strategy.
Pairings: Implied Fye/Kurogane
Warnings: Um, the author describes it as genslash. My new favorite genre.
Summary: Fye and Kurogane play go, in Roku.
Comments: A very pretty fic, with subtlety and layers of meaning. Not usually my favorite, but it seems well suited for any fic involving Fye and Kurogane’s relationship. I like the way Kurogane’s feeling caught between Fye and Tomoyo, and the way Kurogane is beginning to understand Fye, even as he desperately wishes to be home already dammit. You know, it’s interesting. All the good fics about Fye and Kurogane seem to be written from Kurogane’s perspective. I wonder what that says about writing for Fye?
Edited at March 7, 9:19 pm: Having been trying to write a Fye-perspective fic for last several hours, that it’s bloody difficult. He’s a slippery character.
One-shot, complete.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle 12:05 am

Defining a Moment
Pairings: Fai/Kurogane
Warnings: Slash
Summary: Fai and Kurogane are trapped within a cave. Kurogane comes to an important realization.
Comments: How shall I phrase this? Usually, I can’t stand fics like this. I find them boring, tedious, and in desperate need of something to liven them up. I need things to happen, dammit. But this fic manages to get by all my dislikes and prejudices and makes me squee quietly at the characterization and the way they interact, and the way they react to the situation and just remind me of just how much I love Fai (and Kurogane to a lesser extent, but really, I’m an unashamed Fai fangirl). It has a very quiet and resigned tone to it that just works.
