quillofferings: Cat’s Paw
Loosely connected sequel to Je Chante Pour Passer le Temps
Characters/Pairings: Yoruichi, Watanuki
Warnings: None
Summary: A certain black cat visits Yuuko, and borrows Watanuki for the day.
Comments: Just…a magnificently done fic. Yoruichi’s interaction with Watanuki is just well-done, the lessons that she teaches him while still remaining largely aloof are interesting, and it just feels like both series at once. At that’s amazingly hard to do, especially when it comes to series as different as Bleach and XXXholic. (Also, the Rukia cameo made me squee. I am so easy.)
Je Chante Pour Passer le Temps
Characters/Pairings: Byakuya, Yuuko, young Ishida Souken cameo (Ishida’s grandfather)
Warning: None
Summary: Byakuya has made a promise, and he intends to keep it. No matter who he has to deal with, or what laws he has to break.
Comments: Why had no one thought of this before? The concept of this fic is just perfect. And it is just amazingly well-executed. Byakuya’s discomfort with the whole situation, while at the same time, there’s that same titanium-hard honor about him that attracted me to him in the first place.
Author says it may be first in a series, or it could be a one-shot. I’ll leave it at that.
Smoke and Mirrors
Characters/Pairings: Yuuko, Fuji, Watanuki
Warnings: None
Summary: Another day at the shop for Yuuko.
Comments: This was one of those stories that just absolutely fit both…not series. Fit xxxHolic and fit Fuji perfectly. This is a wish that I can see Fuji asking for, because a genius who’s never had to strive can long for that. And it just works.
One-shot, complete
Restitution (Ranma/XXXholic)
Characters/Pairings: Happosai, Yuuko.
Warnings: None
Summary: Happosai gropes the wrong woman.
Comments: Best Ranma crossover EVER. Because Yuuko’s reaction is so perfect, and so UTTERLY EVIL.
One-shot, complete.
Untitled
Characters/Pairings: Yuuko appears in all. And, separated by comma if they appear within the same drabble, separated by semi-colon if they appear in the next drabble, are: Dumbledore; Yuki; Hanajima; Watanuki, Ed (by implication), Ryoma (by implication), D (by implication)
Warnings: None
Summary: 7 drabbles here, five of which I rec. (The other two I don’t even know the bloody series they’re from, but I’ll assume they’re good if you know what they are.)
Comments: Yes, this is further evidence that xxxHolic can be crossed over with anything well. And some of the interactions are just amazingly well done. My favorite line was “She’s a tall woman, with an impressive rack, but something about her makes you keep your eyes slightly above her collar bone at all times.” describing Yuuko, because if that isn’t how Yuki would view Yuuko, I read the wrong manga for them both. And the last drabbles is sheer genius. Because I said so.
Multiple drabbles, complete.
Getting a Hands-On Education [Xxxholic]
Characters/Pairings: Watanuki/Doumeki
Warnings: While there is no actual sex in this, it probably deserves an NC-17 rating for sex anyways
Summary: A missed sex-ed class. A detention. A tutor session.
Comments: I read it the first time, and didn’t particularly like it. I read it a second time and kind of liked it. I read it a third time and went “Holy fuck, this is good.” The characterization is perfectly nailed on the non-sex bits, though I still have many reservations about Doumeki’s characterization during the first part of the tutoring session. It’s well-done, though, and… I don’t quite know how to say this. I like the way that despite how porny this story really is, they didn’t have sex. Or even touch, really. It takes a much better author to convey that sort of intensity without the characters ever touching, and that is something that I always greatly enjoy.
Notes: I mistyped session as sexxion each time. Talk about Freudian typoes.
One-shot, complete.
Mokonas say the darndest things
Characters/Pairings: Implied Clow/Yuuko, Mokona
Warnings: Sex Ed.
Summary: Mokona asks Clow and Yuuko where babies come from. Yuuko and Clow explain in their own, unique way.
Comments: Funny as all hell, and amazingly in-character. I liked the fact that it was from Mokona Modoki’s POV, because that’s rare and it’s an interesting POV to write from.
One-shot, complete.
Untitled
Characters/Pairings: CCS!Tomoyo, Eriol, Kurogane’s princess!Tomoyo.
Warnings: None
Summary: Princess Tomoyo sends dreams to her other self, telling her of the four travellers. Tomoyo demands an explanation of Eriol.
Comments: A really interesting idea, very well-written, by one of the better authors out there. Someone needs to do a complete (well-written) fic about the CCS gang meeting the Tsubasa gang at some point, or I will be immensely sad.
One-shot, complete.
Amusement
Characters/Pairings: Watanuki, Doumeki
Warnings: None?
Summary: Watanuki and Doumeki play chess. Loosely tied to Chess
Comments: There are not enough really good Watanuki/Doumeki fanfics out there. Don’t get me wrong, I fangirl Yuuko madly, but dammit, I like Watanuki too. And this is just perfectly, perfectly done.
One-shot, complete.
Chess
Characters/Pairings: Yuuko, little Watanuki/Doumeki
Warnings: None?
Summary: Yuuko doesn’t particularly like chess. But she plays nonetheless.
Comments: This is wow. Some of it was funny, some of it is serious, and it’s just very, very interesting. And well-done. And I highly, highly enjoyed it. (Perhaps the bit where she freaks Watanuki out by playing with her Harry Potter-modelled chess set a little too much.)
One-shot, complete
Crossover cocktail
Characters/Pairings: (Multiple drabbles, semi-colons indicate new drabbles) Yuuko, Watanuki, Aizen, Gin; Watanuki, Doumeki; Watanuki, Ichigo, Yuuko
Warnings: None
Spoilers: Soul Society arc
Summary: 1) Aizen comes to request a wish 2) Doumeki and Watanuki go to soul society 3) Watanuki and Ichigo meet
Comments: Oddly, I hadn’t thought of a XXXHolic and Bleach crossover before this, but they really do work well together. My favorite is the first, because Yuuko is utterly kickass and I like the concept. But they’re all decent.
Drabbles, complete.
Afternoon tea
Characters/Pairings: Eriol, Yuuko, Kaho, Watanuki.
Warnings: None
Summary: Eriol and Yuuko have tea.
Comments: Clow and Yuuko’s relationship never fails to amuse me, and I find Eriol and Yuuko’s relationship even more interesting. And Yuuko’s parting one-liner to Kaho was perfect.
One-shot, complete.
Peeking Inside the Looking Glass
Characters/Pairings: Watanuki/Doumeki. Yuuko.
Warnings: None
Summary: Doumeki looks to the future, and likes what he sees.
Comments: Yes, I am unashamedly stealing recs from Tomomichi. But only the ones I like. Anyway, I would have seen this when I went through fic_on_demand later on. But this is just…I don’t see Doumeki/Watanuki fics very often, and Doumeki POV is even rarer. And I love Yuuko more than words can say, but I like Watanuki and Doumeki as well, and it’s nice seeing a quiet little fic that has a nice grasp of their characters. Doumeki’s underreaction to what he sees is just nicely done, and I like his little talk with Yuuko.
One-shot, complete.
insert_phrase: Phrase #49 - “A Present”
Characters/Pairings: Clow, Yuuko.
Warnings: None
Summary: When Clow brings Yuuko a present, she is immediately suspicious. Wisely, as it turns out.
Comments: Why, yes, I am a complete sucker for Clow/Yuuko interaction stories. And I love Clow’s sense of humor. And Yuuko is so going to get revenge.
One-shot, complete.
Favorite Mistake
Characters/Pairings: Yuuko, Clow, Yue.
Warnings: None
Summary: (Stealing author’s summary) “Clow and Yue consider their errors with Yuuko.”
Comments: A nice, well-characterized little fic. I really enjoyed the conversation with Yuuko and Yue because I think, in all honesty, Yue needs someone like Yuuko to talk to - someone older, wiser, who he can honestly look up to and talk to. And Yuuko is her usual wise and obnoxious self. I ♥ Yuuko.
One-shot, complete.
And now for something completely different…
Characters/Pairings: Clow, Yuuko, Ashura. Mix and match in whatever way you feel appropriate.
Warnings: Crossdressing
Summary: Yuuko is a crazy woman. And Clow can’t hold his wine.
Comments: This is the Yuuko I love. Utterly batshit insane. And Clow needs to be forced into a dress more often.
One-shot, complete
That Same Old Song
Characters/Pairings: Yuuko, Eriol
Warnings: None
Summary: Yuuko knows that Eriol isn’t quite Clow.
Comments: Very nicely done. It had occurred to me to wonder how the two of them would interact, and this is just so very much in canon. Both of them are characterized just right - evil, snarky, and manipulative, but with real and genuine feelings underneath. And seeing how Yuuko felt at meeting the reincarnation of her old friend - it’s just the way the author captures how she’d feel about it so well.
Notes: I am in the middle of the end of year rush. My keyboard is broken. And I am completely and utterly addicted to campfuckudie on livejournal. THose are my excuses for not updating recently, if you’re interested.
One-shot, complete.
Untitled
Pairings: None
Warnings: Creepiness
Summary: Yuuko gets a visitor, one well-acquainted with paying prices.
Comments: I was just waiting for the day I would find an XXXHolic/FMA crossover, and this is nicely done. It’s a tad short for my prederences, but what’s there is just so perfectly what would happen in a canonical FMA/XXXHolic crossover.
One-shot, complete.
Opposite Day
Pairings: None. Clow-centric.
Warnings: None
Summary: Even the greatest of magicians were children once. And for Clow’s childhood must have been interesting.
Comments: A young!Clow fic. I am in love. It deals very well with how Clow must have been like as a child. Clow really is one of the more fascinating characters.
Notes: Dammit, if it’s not one thing, it’s the other. The reason I haven’t been posting is a) I have been sleeping for 12-18 hours a day because I’m sick, and b) my internet’s been up only intermittently, so frankly, I tend to just have enough time to check my email before it goes off again. And c) I should so be working on my homework instead of reccing, but I don’t care. I’m going to try to go back to reccing lots, but don’t count on it.
Fact and Fiction
Pairings: Slight Clow/Yuuko, I suppose
Warnings: Slight breaking of the fourth wall
Summary: Yuuko finds a toy
Comments: This was so very Yuuko, and so very Clow, and I was so very amused. And I like the words “so very” I think. That aside, it’s a nice little bit of Clow/Yuuko interaction fluff that brings in an interesting idea.
One-shot, complete.
