Comments: It’s a very calm, peaceful, almost bittersweet sort of fic. I liked the style of writing; it drew me into the mood of the fic without being so ornate that it became purple. I have doubts about the Kairi bits, but frankly, at this point in reading KH fics, I can’t tell when she’s being bashed and when she isn’t, and I think I may be overreacting to things that paint her in an unflattering light. (Seriously, I haven’t seeing character bashing this bad since Gundam Wing. What the hell, fandom.)

Comments: Huh. I honestly thought I’d already recced this fic. I searched through the FMA section, plus a few other in case I’d marked it into the wrong category, but. Apparently I didn’t. So. It’s the only well-written Scar/Al fic I’ve ever seen, and ever since I first watched episode…23? 24? 25?, I’ve thought that Scar/Al had the potential to be a very interesting pairing. But I’d probably rec this even if I didn’t have that background, just because the way they play off each other is just so beautiful. The way Scar’s trying to teach Al that not everything has to be equivalent exchange, the way Al’s still trying to adjust to being in a human body, just…everything.

Comments: First, Harukami remembered the Disney characters. I’m…actually still just a little weirded out by reading Disney characters, but at the same time, they’re part of the series and if you’re writing Sora travelling someplace, you SHOULD NOT just not write Donald and Goofy. THat’s not the main appeal of the fic, of course. I just really kind of wanted to rant.
     Mostly, though, it’s just a really, really well-done fic that does an excellent job of resolving how Sora might feel about Nobodies and about Axel at the end of the game. And yes, that’s a common type of theme in KH2 fandom. But this one’s really well-done.

Summary: They’re still awkward together, but getting better.
Comments: I still feel really weird about reccing what is essentially a PWP. But there’s something very sweet about this fic. It’s the three of them still really learning how to have sex, and there’s awkwardness and overpreparedness and people coming too early. It’s just really charming, and does a very nice job of showing the dynamics of their relationship.

Day To Day

Comments: There’s something very poignant about this fic. I like the way the author uses Kairi’s daily routines to emphasize the three’s closeness. And just the balance of their relationship, and the quiet happiness when they’re all finally home just works for me.

This isn’t really the type of fic I love, it’s a little too much on the stupid angst side. But at the same time, there’s something very sweet about the fic that I can’t help but really love.

It’s good and I loved the intensity of the emotions. The second drabble, I didn’t like quite as much as the first, but oh my god Sora is adorable. And I can totally totally see them doing this.

Comments: Moonsheen does an amazing, amazing job of capturing the not-quite-human aspect of the Nobodies. And her characterization of Axel in particular, but really all of them, is just wonderful. And watching Naminé question Axel about his role in the events of Chain of Memories is just really interesting. I had to reread it once to understand, but I think that’s because I’m not familiar with novel canon, which this is partially based off of.

Comments: The first time I read through it, I didn’t particularly like it. I reread it though, because I felt that I missed something the first time, and everything just clicked into place. It’s a brilliantly characterized fic about Axel, mainly, and the nature of Nobodies. Oddly, I like Axel studying philosophy, because to me, the logical thing to do after becoming a Nobody would be to read philosophers about what the nature of the human heart is. And I really like the way Axel and Roxas’ relationship is written, because it’s more sharp-edged and dangerous than usual. And as much as I am a shameless fluff hor, this feels like a more realistic depiction considering the nature of the relationship.

Venificus Ex Machina - A Belgariad/CSI crossover

Comments: I debated long and hard about reccing this, because it’s such a very odd fic. And I’m completely unfamiliar with CSI, and don’t generally read fanfic in book fandom for many reasons. But, from my perspective, this is oddly enough an excellent outsider-perspective of Belgarath. I have a fondness for random-person-thinking-about-familiar-characters fics, and to me, this is an excellent example of the kind. Now, to a CSI fan who’s completely unfamiliar with the Belgariad, I have no idea what their impression of this fic would be. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. Besides, I have a fondness for crack that’s internally consistent.

Comments: I like the way the author portrays the Organization. I like the darkness and ruthlessness, while the author maintains the sheer dorkiness that caught my attention to the Organization in the first place. (Although the dorkiness level isn’t really quite as high as I’d like.) I love Larxene in this, especially, but then I’m rapidly falling for Larxene in a major way.

Comments: One of those fics that I saw recced several times before I actually started reading. The beginning is kind of slow and could use a bit of tightening up, but I was genuinely startled at how quickly I read it. It’s…long and epic and just really well-done. I like the contrast the author draws between Zack, Sephiroth, and Cloud from pre-Nibelheim to them after the game plus several years of war. I also really, really like the way she writes Aeris, and the Aeris/Zack scenes are just adorable. …We all have our biases.

State Secrets

Comments: Asdlfkj tentacle het sex with the woman topping. That alone would make me at least consider reccing it, despite the fact that it’s really not much more than a PWP, but the omake at the end is just so so very perfect. As is Archer’s reaction throughout the fic. I keep reading laylah’s porn, and I keep going “Damnit, I don’t like reccing PWPs. I want more character insight than most of them provide” and then she goes and writes brilliant (and incredibly hot) fics like this. It isn’t fair.

Comments: This is just a very, very good look at the inside of Kadaj’s head. It’s disturbing and fucked up and confused, but it’s well-written. And the chocolate metaphor works surprisingly well.

Comments: First thing, this takes place between Cloud arriving in Midgar and Tifa taking him in, and the start of the game. For some reason, I was originally thinking this happened post-Advent Children, so I was really, really confused. That aside, this does an excellent, excellent job of capturing what I think their relationship to be at that point in time. And I’m not a big fan of Tifa, but this made me sympathize with her. And there are worse things to say about a fic than that.

Summary: Sometimes, SOLDIERs take on a few trainees to personally mentor. Zack decides that one of his trainees will be Cloud.
Comments; I really like Zack’s cheerful sadism in training. And Cloud’s characterization is a rare one, but I like it. He’s more snarly and grumpy than I usually see, but frankly, I think it works. And the fic just feels a hell of a lot more plausible, military-wise, than 99% of the SOLDIER fics I read. Which, incidentally, does not make it ring entirely true to me. Just…moreso than usual.

Ten Years After

Summary: Ten years later, the Student Council meets in mysterious circumstances. And remembers.
Comments: Something about this fic just… every time I read it, I cry. And it isn’t particularly a sad fic. Really, I don’t know why I cry everytime I read it. But something about the emotions, and just the intensity of Anthy… I don’t know. It feels… right, somehow. Also, on a lighter note, I love Nanami in this fic. Her and Touga’s relationship has always been Anthy and Akio’s in miniature, and so the way their relationship ends up works.
